AVALON BEACH IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION, INC. (ABIA) Minutes of the ABIA Annual Meeting held 5/2/09, President, Lesley Ball called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Lesley welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending and expressed her appreciation to those who were a part of the work party on the association’s ocean lot at 8:30 a.m. this date and thanked Doris Kimble for mailing out the newsletter and parking passes. Old Business: Lesley said the minutes for the Annual Meeting will continue to be on the ABIA Website. Any changes or updates to e-mail addresses can be made there. Several members used the website to print out the annual dues forms and mailed in their dues saving the association the cost of postage by not mailing out the notices. Mail outs were done by first class mail to ensure forwarding addresses or returned mail with new addresses, keeping our records up to date. The parking passes have a “new look” this year. The new color is Purple and is printed on both sides, making the identification easier from a distance and when the pass is displayed in the car. The plants that were planted at the ocean lot last year are growing and doing well. Thanks to Terry Zeytoonian for being in charge of this project. Treasurer’s Report: Janet Kendrick gave the following report: Beginning Balance: $ 6,133.48: Expenses: $ 4,057.00: Deposits: $ 6,655.00; Balance as of 5/1/09: $ 8,739.49. Itemized Expenses: Web Site: $ 428.46; Annual Picnic $ 308.96; OB Hauling (Recycle) $ 88.22; Bldg/Maintenance $ 233.85; Postage $499.00; Printing $1,104.92; Plants and Tree $487.83; Security $ 450.00; Insurance $ 250.00; Dog Potti Bags $ 206.75. Also on hand are CD $11,019.67 and Money Market $ 7,742.68. These two accounts are held as a contingency fund for bulkheads on the sound and ocean lots if they are ever needed to be replaced. Report was approved. New Business: The work party on the ocean lot replaced three fences to help secure the dune between the lot and the beach, hauled two trucks loads of debris, trash and weeds to recycle center, picked up trash and pulled weeds. Recycle Bin at ocean lot needs to be pushed to the street weekly. Anyone at the beach on Sundays, is asked to push the container to the street for pick-up on Mondays. Taking the container off the street would be appreciated also. ABIA sent a letter to the Town of Kill Devil Hills Police Department giving the police permission to enter the oceanfront property if necessary. Police will patrol the lot as well as the beach to reinforce safety along the beach area. Trees and plants were planted at the sound lot to improve the appearance. Thanks, again to Terry. After six years of serving as President, Lesley stated she was stepping down. She has enjoyed working with everyone and being active with ABIA. New officers were elected as follows: President – VACANT; V. President/ Landscaping Coordinator – Terry Zeytoonian; Treasurer – Carol Sterner; Secretary – Doris Kimble. Lesley will assist and consult with anyone willing to serve as president. ABIA is a much needed organization for the community and it must stay active.
